We have a bunch of users (about 50) who have drive mappings, not all the same, to folders on a share on server1.
We have a new file server, server2, we want to re-map their drives to.
The problem is that there are a lot of shared documents, spreadsheets passed around etc, and scanning going on all the time. So going through the office from user to user re-mapping drives while people are working is pretty much out of the question.

Come to think of it, it's not just mapped drives, there are shortcuts too. sigh...

Would a regedit search and replace "\\server1\share" with "\\server2\share" work?
That would be off hours and then turn off the share on server1 to catch anything that got missed.

Is there a better way of doing this?

According to Susan Sarandon, the nation is going through a really rough patch right now, and not necessarily because, you know, we have no jobs. We weep, all of us, from Guam to Anchorage, because Sarandon and That Guy From "Shawshank Redemption" have broken up.

Sarandon discussed the breakup in the latest edition of New York magazine. She described it unto us thusly:

"The nation mourned," Sarandon said. "I did feel a sense of responsibility, because I knew that people had a certain idea of how I was and who we were."

For the record, Sarandon adds, “But on your deathbed, it's not really going to matter how those people felt."

As of Wednesday afternoon, Staples Center has not been booked for any sort of memorial; we also were unable to confirm any dates for a public service at Forest Lawn, though we are awaiting return phone calls from several local makers of gold caskets, and we can only assume that Jennifer Hudson will be singing something grand, probably backed by a local AME church choir.

In the meantime, let’s try our best to face our grief with dignity. The onetime couple that was Sarandon and That Guy From "Shawshank" would want it that way.

Yesterday a colleague took a bunch of video at our local Children's Hosptial (we are trying to raise money towards a new dual operating theatre).

Before going we did a test with our Sanyo HD2000 and a lapel mic. This worked ok but was a bit quiet. So she found the setting for 'external mic volume' and upped it from 3 to 4 out of 5. Sadly we didn't do another test and after filming she found the sound to be distorted.

What's a good approach to cleaning it up, if any?

I have available CS5 Master Suite (but my 64-bit Windows 7 box is playing up so I have to fix that first) and Pinnacle Studio 12 (will need reinstalling as the HDD it is on was last used on older hardware).

Thanks,

I found a free software (joytokey) and a commercial software (xpadder) that allows mapping of keys and mouse movements to the controller. xpadder looks good and is not expensive, but is it good? Are there (better) alternatives?

Thanks!

Many were sad to see Microsoft ditch the Windows 7 Family Pack right in the middle of the 2009 holiday shopping season. Well, Windows fans can rejoice because Microsoft has brought back Family Pack to celebrate Windows 7's one-year anniversary.

As many of you already know, Windows 7 Family Pack gives you three licensed upgrades of Windows 7 Home Premium for just $149.99 instead of $119.99 for each license. According to Microsoft's Ashely Brown, Family Pack will be available from the Microsoft Store and authorized retailers beginning on October 3 in the United States.

Those outside of the U.S. (Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia) will have to wait until October 22 to get the Family Pack.

Unfortunately, just like before, the availability of the Windows 7 Family Pack won't be a long-term offering -- Microsoft says that the offer is "while supplies last".

Burr Oak man kills 34-inch gator while picking corn

Burr Oak -- A man simply wanted to gather some sweet corn for the family freezer. He didn't expect to have to deal with a 34-inch alligator rushing at him.

Jeff Adamski of St. Joseph County was in a corn field near the Michigan-Indiana border when two women came running from a few rows over, screaming that they had seen an alligator.

Adamski tells the Sturgis Journal he "backed away" and the gator "darted at me." He then backed up faster, and the animal kept coming.

That's when Adamski decided to deal with the problem, considering what an alligator could do to a child if he let it go. He grabbed a 4-foot bar out of his truck and killed the alligator.

Adamski is from Burr Oak, about 80 miles south of Grand Rapids.
